On May 7, 2018, Hyundai Robotics signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with KUKA, a German robotics firm, to establish a strategic relationship in the robotics industry.

Under the MOU, the two companies plan to capitalize on Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings’ sales network and its after-sales service capabilities to sell 6,000 robotics-related products for electronics industries by 2021. This cooperation is expected to enhance Hyundai Robotics’ sales power and technological capabilities further, allowing it to sell and provide after-sales services for small robots, which the firm does not currently manufacture.

The MOU also provides for joint R & D for industrial robotics and the manufacture of KUKA’s robots in Korea, providing Hyundai Robotics an opportunity to elevate the firm’s robotics capabilities to a global level.
