Hyundai Robotics set out to preempt the smart factory market with POSCO ICT
▶ Signed a business contract with POSCO ICT for industrial robot-based smart factory
▶ Expect synergy from the No. 1 company in industrial robot and a leading smart factory company
▶ Provide specialized heterogeneous robot O&M service with a cloud-based robot service platform

Hyundai Robotics is joining hands with POSCO ICT to preempt the smart factory market.

Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings’ Robot Business Division recently sealed a smart factory business agreement based on industrial robots with POSCO ICT at the POSCO ICT Pangyo Office. On the day of the agreement, COO Seo Yoo Seong of Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings’ Robot Business Division and Son Geon-jae, president of POSCO ICT, attended. Hyundai Robotics is a major brand of the robot business division.

The two companies plan to form a consortium before winning a smart factory order, thereby creating a synergy through joint marketing and sales. Hyundai Robotics, relishing the No. 1 market share in the domestic industrial robot market, will be in charge of smart factory process diagnosis and robot-based automation facility construction.

POSCO ICT plans to take charge of the smart factory platform “PosFrame” and application implementation and robot service.

The cooperation will enable the two to be able to execute consulting and diagnosis services in the form of 3D-based simulation by examining manufacturers’ processes and realizing the robot application environment in advance. With a cloud-based robot operation and maintenance platform, they also plan to provide real-time monitoring of robot-based facility operation and services, allowing relevant data analysis and preemptive response to issues such as malfunction. By providing such services, it makes it possible to attain the integrated operation of robots by each unit process and integrated management of all plants in connection with the existing systems.

The size of the smart factory market is also growing day by day. According to Markets and Markets, an American market research agency, it is predicted that the market size of the world's smart factories would surge from USD 121 billion in 2016 to USD 206.2 billion in 2022. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy also announced that it intends to supply 30,000 smart factories by 2025.

A source from Hyundai Robotics said, “I am excited to see that this agreement helps the two to smoothly consolidate their individual strengths and generate synergy,” and added, “We will strive to leap forward to become the undisputed leader in the “Smart Factory” market and get ready for Industry 4.0. ”

A source from POSCO ICT said, “With this agreement, we are now able to offer differentiated industrial robots-based services in the smart factory sector,” and underscored, “We intend to back up the competitiveness of our client’s manufacturing sites by offering specialized leading robot services in various fields of manufacturing.”
