Daegu Mobile Cobot Regulatory Free Zone, which will be the cornerstone of the smart industry, officially opens

The city of Daegu held "the launch ceremony of the Daegu Mobile Cobot Regulatory Free Zone" at the Daegu Mechatronics & Materials Institute on November 28, with Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun in attendance, and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with three domestic robotics companies as well as Hyundai Robotics to promote mobile cooperative robotics.

Earlier before the event, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun heard an explanation of the Hyundai Robotics’ cooperative robot (YL012) and mobile service robot (UNI-100) as he watched.

The Daegu Mobile Cobot Regulatory Free Zone was designated as a special zone last July, and it offers demonstrations and domestic and international standards for expanding the scope of cooperative robotics usage by 2024.

The mobile cooperative robot is a combination of a robot on an AGV and can only be operated in a stationary state, originally, but it can move and demonstrate its abilities within a special zone with special privileges.

It is like reproducing the sketch of a smart industrial city in which cooperative robots move around and work with humans at manufacturing and production sites.

Through such demonstrations, it is expected that the scope of cooperative robotics usage will expand and Korean companies will strengthen their competitiveness in the cooperative robotics market.

As the city allows the demonstration of the cooperative robots moving, operating, and working is allowed in the Daegu Mobile Cobot Regulatory Free Zone, the city predicts a competitive edge in both the domestic and global markets in the future.

Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said, “The Daegu Mobile Cobot Regulatory Free Zone is expected to have a positive ripple effect on the local economy,” and added, “The government will actively support it.”
